Suzanne Lynn Balka, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Suzanne is a 2011 graduate with a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and also has a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Psychology from the University of Houston. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, she has also been designated as a Nationally Certified Counselor through The National Board For Certified Counselors. She is a Level III trained TEAM-CBT therapist at the Feeling Good Institute, where she has been engaged in post-graduate study since 2013. Additionally, Suzanne has received post-graduate training through the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and The Jung Center of Houston. Specializing primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she also incorporates skills from other modalities, including Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and is a certified practitioner in this field. Suzanne enjoys providing psychotherapy services to help individuals overcome challenges such as low self-esteem/self-worth, attachment disorders, trauma, panic, procrastination, substance abuse, anxiety, and mood disorders. She practices as a therapist in the W. Houston and Katy areas and has been in private practice since 2013.

With over 15 years in the behavioral health field, Suzanne has extensive experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, CPS involvement, and children and adolescent issues related to abuse and neglect, as well as individuals with chronic mental illness. Her diverse experience includes working in various therapeutic settings such as a local women's center, several partial hospitalization programs, intensive-outpatient programs, psychiatric hospitals, and contract therapy work for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, along with her private practice. Her 700-hour practicum/internship was completed at the Montgomery County Women's Center, providing individual and group counseling to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

After completing her master's program and through her own life experiences, Suzanne discovered a profound interest in health/medical psychology and the mind/body connection, believing that caring for the mind involves caring for the body. She is committed to continuing her education in this area and other interests.
