What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often sought from a skilled counselor in Houston, is a form of psychotherapy grounded in the cognitive model that suggests if you change how you think, you can change how you feel. This goal-directed, present-focused approach fosters collaboration between client and therapist. CBT stands out as the top psychotherapy choice for treating various forms of depression and anxiety. Its efficacy is supported by years of research and empirical evidence, demonstrating its success in alleviating suffering and enhancing clients' quality of life. Often, clients can achieve complete recovery using tools that can be employed for a lifetime, without the need for psychotropic medication. Progress in therapy is monitored through surveys assessing mood throughout treatment, with the ultimate aim of helping clients feel better about themselves and their lives.

In addition to CBT, I also incorporate strategies and techniques from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to help individuals understand their deeper programming, enabling them to reprogram any unwanted unconscious mental states and behaviors. As a Houston counselor, I emphasize that NLP involves studying our subjective experiences and their effects on our behavior. It highlights that the words we use don't merely describe our world—they create it. The internal representations we form about external events are not necessarily reflective of the events themselves.

A psychodynamic approach is another effective form of psychotherapy that aids individuals in discovering themes within their current self-talk, which often operates on autopilot. By examining emotional triggers and connecting them to relevant life histories, we can uncover negative or self-defeating beliefs that underlie current behavioral and emotional patterns. From there, we work on modifying these negative core beliefs, allowing individuals to experience their current reality in a new way.

These approaches—CBT, NLP, and psychodynamic therapy—along with other powerful modalities such as mindfulness training, manifestation, and visualization strategies, are highly effective in addressing a wide array of mental and emotional concerns. They empower individuals to tap into the power of their minds and direct their thoughts, resulting in a significant ripple effect that enhances overall wellness and quality of life. Our psychology and personality traits play a fundamental role in our health and life direction. These techniques can truly be life-changing, and it would be an honor to work with you on any area of life you'd like to transform.

It is essential to collaborate with a counselor in Houston who understands and respects you. I work diligently to ensure each client feels comfortable, understood, listened to, and empathized with in a warm, accepting, and positive environment, fostering the therapeutic alliance. My aim is to connect deeply and thoroughly understand my clients right where they are before deciding to shift gears and begin any problem-solving work together.
