Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is based off of the cognitive model that if you can change how you think, you can change how you feel. It is goal directed, present focused and collaborative between client and therapist. CBT is the top psychotherapy of choice in treating many forms of Depression and Anxiety. Its efficacy is backed with years of research and empirical evidence which proves its success in alleviating suffering and helping clients feel better and thus improve their quality of life. Often times a client can obtain complete recovery with tools that they can use for a lifetime, without turning to psychotropic medication. Progress in therapy is tracked through surveys that test one's mood throughout treatment with the goal being to feel better about themselves and their life.
In addition to CBT, I also utilize strategies and techniques from the concepts of NLP- helping the person understand their deeper programming and from there, work on reprogramming any unwanted unconscious mental states and behaviors. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the study of our subjective experience and how it affects our behavior. It is the realization that the words we use do not describe the world we live in....they create it. The internal representations that we make about an outside event are not necessarily the event itself.
A psychodynamic approach is yet another popular form of psychotherapy that can help an individual discover themes in their current self-talk and tie it to relevant life history to begin uncovering negative or self-defeating beliefs that may be underlining an individual's current behavioral patterns. Through modifying the negative core belief, a person can begin experiencing their current reality in a new way.
These approaches (CBT, NLP, Psycho-dynamic) along with other powerful modalities including mindfulness training are extremely effective in treating a wide variety of mental and emotional concerns. These approaches can help one begin to tap into the power of the mind and direct one's thoughts. This has a HUGE ripple like effect that improves one's overall wellness and quality of life. Our psychology and personality tendencies do play a fundamental role in our physical health conditions. These techniques and processes can therefore truly be life changing and it would be an honor to work with you on any area of life you would like to transform.
It is important to work with a therapist who understands you and respects you. I work carefully and diligently to make sure each client feels comfortable, understood, listened to and empathized with within a warm, unconditionally accepting and positive environment to help foster the therapeutic alliance. I aim to tune into, fully connect and thoroughly understand my clients right where they are before ever deciding it would be time to shift gears, roll-up our sleeves together and begin any problem solving work.
